Does anybody know much about this engine?

Hi all!

i have a 9n3 polo hatch, which in South Africa comes with a EA-111 BAH/BGU 1.6 8v motor. It uses a roller rocker camshaft (RSH).

Power: 74kw(100hp) @5500rpm
Torque: 140nm(103lb/ft) @3250rpm

the specs are as follows:

-Engine: EA-111 BAH/BGU
-multi-point electronic fuel injection
-ECU: Bosch ME7
-Displacement: 1598cc/97.5 cubic inches
-SOHC 2 valves per cylinder
-Rev Limit = 6500rpm
-Compression ratio: 10:1
-Bore: 76.5mm
-Stroke: 86.9mm
-Throttle body is electronic drive by wire
-Intake port = 28mm
-Intake valve diameter = 32.5mm
-Exhaust port = 25mm
-Exhaust valve diameter = 25.5mm - 26mm


does anyone know much about this motor or have any expereince with it?

Are you sure, that this engine has 8 valves?
I found only the 1.6 engine with 16valves and 105hp.

I know this engine from the Golf Mk 4. There it is called 1.6 SR. The 16 Valves 1.6 litre Engine you mean is a newer one.

ye positive it is 8v - it is in my car

i am wanting to tune the motor to get 130hp (standard 100hp)

The SR engine looks different! my car, the engine cover is also the airbox

The engine is not used for Polos in Europe, there an engine with 16 valves is used ('BTS'), also based on the EA111 block, but with a timing chain and single ignition coils
